What have I walked into???

It’s Cam and I’ve started to eat Thai food and I found the masterpiece to it: the green curry chicken👌

    h

this stuff is like whoa. And when you eat some you want more, sometimes I wonder what would happen if we  were to open a restaurant with a bunch of the food that you wouldn’t see in Canada but that’s beyond the point. I guess the moral of this story is never go to a country and not eat their food. The last post I did I said do something productive instead of watching me so if your’e still watching this then the moral of this story to you is go outside or something it’s summer, bye!

Cameron has discovered Thai food😄😄😄

We’ve arrived in Ko Samui😍. Looks good so far – can’t wait to see the beaches tomorrow

Cameron has discovered Thai food

Here he is taking a nice bite of some green curry chicken

And here is the result

Jamie’s sticking with pizza for the time being, but we’re working on him. Last night he tried some Tom Yum soup, but tonight it’s pizza and 7/11 dessert

Phi Phi from my Bum Bum

(FYI in case you’re not aware, Phi Phi is pronounced Pee Pee.)

Well we are halfway through our trip😞. We wasted the first day flying half around the world. Today I spent the day flying between my bed and the toilet.

Looking back, the warning signs were there. I noticed they had that BBQ going from early on in the morning… I think what they do is cook it half way, then finish it off when it’s ordered. By the time we got there around 9:00pm, her fire was almost extinguished. I guess it just wasn’t hot enough, and that bird just didn’t finish cooking.

The result: The boys and I spent the day with wicked diarrhea, vomiting and a general sense of wanting it to just stop.

In an earlier post I talked about winning some and losing some… Today was definitely a loss. But Gen (smart enough not to eat the chicken) was great and took care of us all day long.

Jamie was the first to come around and even went to dinner to keep Gen company tonight… What a guy!

Cameron was next to come out of it, even eating a Nutella sandwich this afternoon.

As for me, I still feel a bit queasy but am at least able to keep down the electrolytes Gen got me.

Tomorrow’s a brand new day… I may start it by going and giving that BBQ lady a piece of my mind.😉

A bad day, but if that’s the worst one of the trip, I will be quite happy.

Back for more BBQ chicken

we found this place the first night we arrived in Phuket… And I was immediately drawn by the smell of charcoal BBQ…

The chicken is some of the bay I’ve ever had… So we’re back for the third time in 4 days… Not sure what I was thinking on the day we skipped.

After lunch, we are headed to a new beach: Surin Beach. Supposedly bigger waves, but there is less wind today, so they should be manageable. The sun is shining also, so should be awesome.

We’ll post some pictures after lunch. It just arrived… So good

Lunch at Bang Tao Beach

We are spending the day at the beach today. This place is incredible. It is monsoon season so there are lots of clouds, but no rain so far today. It will come. Lots of waves too, the surfers are having a good time. It’s fun to watch them.

We are have been hanging out at this restaurant on the beach. Here is the view

That’s Cameron and Jamie building sand castles in the background.

We had company while we ate

There are roosters all around the place. Not sure if they are for fighting as the Australian guy we talked to claimed, or just tomorrow’s lunch.

Either way, the lunch was very good.

Not sure if this is the spot in Phuket, but we are super happy. We found another hotel that we will move to tomorrow… We might be here a while.

Sunday night market

The Saturday night market was huge. The Sunday market was even bigger.

The nice thing is that unlike typical flea markets at home where every stall sells the same junk, here every stall seems to have something unique, making it very difficult to settle on what you want to buy. The prices are crazy cheap, but we were able to resist, and stuck to food. Gen and I had some pretty good sushi for about 5$… At home would have easily cost $25.

The boys were amazingly patient, but disappointed not to find the Lego figurine guy we saw last night… Oh well, there’s always the night bazaar tomorrow.

Along the way we saw another incredibly beautiful temple. This one made in teak wood and goldleaf. I have hundreds of photos of temples already, and just can’t stop taking them.

Different temple, with really detailed silver side doors

And another one (Chiang Mai is known as the city of temples, and for good reason)

On another note, we are quite happy in the new hotel, it has a nice view of the mountain overlooking the city. Here is a photo as the sun was setting earlier

We are right in the middle of the action here, steps away from the night market. As much as I can’t wait to get to the beaches down south, I will miss the character and authenticity of the North. Tomorrow is our last day in Chiang Mai. It will be a bittersweet goodbye. I hope to return here one day.

Chiang Mai Saturday Night Market

It is huge. Lots of cool stuff, and many different kinds of foods to sample.

The boys had chocolate waffles that were amazing. Gen and I started with Chinese dumplings that were so good we had to go back for seconds

I have found another dish I enjoy: Papaya salad – very spicy. An ice cold Chang beer on hand to put out the fire.

We found these shooting games and just had to fire of some rounds (only beebees).

I obliterated the bullseye of my target. The boys will post their thoughts tomorrow.

As we were leaving, we stumbled upon this amazing temple complex. First was a standard temple with a big Buddha inside.

And beside that, there was a silver temple that had colourful lights projected onto it. I must say it was one of the more stunning sights I have seen to date in Thailand.

Sorry to just dump a bunch of photos without much thought or reflection. It is very late here. I will provide some deeper perspective once we complete this whirlwind in the North, and I have a little more time while lounging on the beaches down South.

We are all doing well and having a great time.
